Dinner like grownups

Ah the beauty of West Elm. The classic thick legs of the Parsons small dinner table make it look boxy, which I love. And it will actually seat 4 people when we pull it away from the wall. And finally (FINALLY!!) we are using some of the dishes we received as wedding gifts - 3 years later.

And I love the mix of old and new. I found these vintage Robin Day 60's chairs on Ebay. They came as a set of 4 so we use one as a desk chair and 1 as a place for me to put my bags after work. And bonus - they stack. At some point I will repaint the legs in super shiny silver.

Formal place settings - all black and white. Dishes from the Fiesta line at Macy's, which are new but look old. Plus square dishes from CB2, and vintage stackable Glasbake soup bowls, found at a Florida thrift store for $2.00 each!

What I did on my summer vacation

In NYC storage is always an important part of designing an apartment and its furnishings. Of course with 2 of us we have a ton of clothes. And since I have taken over 1 full closet with my craft and art supplies that left us with overflow from our shared double door closet.
A dresser was needed.
This is how I spent the first day of my summer vacation. The delivery of the Matchbox dresser from CB2 arrived early and I got started.

Here is the final product. The drawers are super deep - I still cannot believe all of Matt's concert t shirts fit in one drawer! The dresser was actually easy to put together but the quality was only slightly higher than Ikea. But the design is gorgeous! I love the shiny white surface.

Complete for now

I love modern/industrial design and CB2 fits that perfectly.  Our housewarming gift from my mom and sister: this super cool rolling cart, which we are using as our entry table. It is outfitted with a vintage picture of my parents, a vintage Coca Cola tray for mail, a Liberty of London for Target cereal bowl for keys and black boxes from Ikea. I think Trixie likes it.

New rug and new art makes for a great weekend

We ordered the Flor carpet tiles for our living room rug and it arrived perfectly branded. This is a well thought out product.  The squares attach via Flor Dots - super easy.Gotta love a design it yourself area rug. We choose the Feeling Groovy style in a few colors and designed it to look "random."  It works.

Also - I love Franz Kline.  He would look great in our foyer.  Since he is just a few million out of our price range - here is my $50 version, all parts available from Michaels.  The bumble bee entryway is coming along.

Trixie is right at home

2 of 4 living room walls painted! Still have to paint the white trim.  Here is our new charcoal grey couch and ottoman from R&F. Trixie obviously loves it and has made herself right at home.  Many thanks to B.S. for the help testing so many couches! The temporary artwork hanging above the couch is too small but will do for now.  And we desperately need new scones.  I will have to figure out how to wire them.

I love our new show rings by Umbra they slide so easily and will make changing the liner so fast. The open design and curvy shape make me wanna relax and take a bubble bath.

Painting party

Original details abound.  To paint, we first had to paint the picture molding.  Then fill in the color.  The walls have so muchtexture from years and years and layers and layers of paint. The color is Behr Fountain Sprout 520C-2 in Semigloss.

Next the entry hallway - I wanted something bright and happy - Behr Pale Daffodil 370A-2 also Semigloss. At some point the semi gloss will reflect whatever lighting fixture we install.
Then the hallway turned into a bumblebee in my mind. I framed black and white photos from our wedding and from our trip to Rome in black frames with white mattes from Pottery Barn and a theme is emerging.

Ah sweet reward.  First things in the fridge are the most important!

The Before

Our new apartment - before the transformation has even begun. The previous owner left us with a great hardwood floor and white walls. The apartment is definitely a project apartment. I won't even begin to describe the wall sconces. So the adventure begins...

Our gorgeous new corner!  Close to a dog run and the subway.

The front of our new building. Yes it's Prewar.
